Meet the Staff

Jean Varty

My career has stemmed from working in the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne and the Dandenong Ranges in the 1980’s. My pedagogy is heavily influenced by the work of Dr Chris Sara ‘Stronger Smarter Institute’, working with Aboriginal Communities, ‘Dr John Munro’ research and interventions for Aboriginal Literacy interventions and most recently Tom Brunzel’s ‘Berry Street Education Model’. I am most passionate about supporting students to achieve their personal best.

I grew up in the small town of Longwood (about 45 mins from Shepparton), attended Longwood Primary School (very similar size to Ardmona Primary School) and Euroa Secondary College. I completed an AFL SportsReady Traineeship at Euroa Secondary College once I completed year 12. After this Traineeship I studied a Bachelor of Education (Primary/Secondary Strand) at La Trobe University in Bendigo majoring in Health and minoring in History. Once I completed uni, I moved to Mooroopna and began teaching at Ardmona Primary School. I have loved every minute of it. In my spare time I like to read, go fishing and support the mighty Essendon Football Club.

I have lived in the Shepparton and Mooroopna area my whole life. I went to St Georges Rd Primary School and Shepparton High School. Before I began working at Ardmona PS I worked at AFL Victoria, AFL Goulburn Murray and completed a Diploma of Sports Management through AFL Sportsready.

I've worked at Ardmona Primary School for 5 years. I love helping the students and putting a smile on their faces.

I play football for Mooroopna and follow North Melbourne in the AFL.
